When my fellow perfume loving friends, Leslie Ann and Allen Aaron White, asked if I wanted to be one of the initial stops for their ancient Roman Empire era perfume bottle tour of the US, I had to pinch myself! (Ummm, yes I would love to!) This husband and wife team own the Miniature Perfume Shoppe and The Mini Museum, located in Spring, TX.
The Shoppe houses more than 5,000 mini perfume bottles for purchase. The Mini Museum was created to share Allen and Leslie Ann’s love for the history of perfume. They have tours, perfume talks and special events. The museum on the go perfume collaboration between The Mini Museum and Esscentual Alchemy package contained one Unguentarium, one Lachrymatory, and samples of Helena and Helena MMXIV, created by Amanda Feely. Helena is Amanda’s interpretation of an ancient Roman unguent, based on the image of a woman in her garden on a warm spring day. Helena MMXIV is a modern day version that is brighter and more recognizable to perfume lovers in the 21st century.
Helena’s notes: frankincense, sandalwood, tolu balsam, labdanum, myrrh, rose, jasmine, orris, marjoram, black pepper and clary sage.
Helena MMXIV notes: frankincense, sandalwood, tolu balsam, labdanum, myrrh, rose, jasmine, orris, bergamot, rosewood and phenyl ethyl alcohol.
Both versions of Helena start with a strong floral opening, a wet rose that is earthy and warm. MMXIV is slightly lighter and more metallic to my nose. After the dry down, both Helena perfumes are rich, luxurious and invoke a “golden” feel. MMXIV isn’t quite as strong, and if I had to compare it to a modern day perfume, I’d say it would fit in well with Chanel Les Exclusifs. The scents are both long lasting. The original Helena lasts a bit longer, due to it’s perfume oil base. I will treasure both samples of the Helena perfume, and truly appreciate the opportunity to take part in this one of a kind program!
Today I’m linking up with my beauty blogging friends at the Beauty Blogger Collaboration group. I hope you will love everyone’s perfume musings as much as I do!
