Paula’s Choice Must Haves
Clear Daily Skin Clearing Treatment 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide
Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel with Glycolic Acid
Skin Recovery Replenishing Moisturizer
Resist Moisture Renewal Oil Booster with Ceramides + Argan Oil
I have combination skin with acne, and also worry about aging now that I’m 37. Because of my current acne medications from my dermatologist, my skin is sensitive and tends to have very dry and tender areas. The Clear Benzoyl Peroxide
acne treatment is hands down the best BP product on the market. It’s gentle and effective. It works as an all over treatment, or spot treatment.
The Skin Perfecting Glycolic Acid Gel is amazing. It’s the perfect dosage to be effective without irritating, and it compliments the BP treatment nicely.
The Skin Recovery Moisturizer and Resist Oil are my go-to for overly dry and sensitive skin. I typically use these as my last steps at night. This magical duo prevents me from being scaly, red, and peeling when I’m using Retin A several nights per week.
Paula’s Choice also sells samples of most of the products, and even include free samples in each order. I’ve found some new favorites that way! Paula’s Choice products are cruelty free, and not tested on animals. They are also free from dyes and fragrance.
Have you tried Paula’s Choice yet? If you sign up and use your $10 credit, I would love to hear about what you ordered and how you like it!

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try out the newest skin care line from Paula’s Choice this month! The Paula’s Choice Calm Redness Relief kits are designed for sensitive skin, rosacea like symptoms, and skin that is easily irritated. The kits come with slightly different products. One kit is for normal to oily/combination skin, and one kit is for normal/dry skin. My current skin care situation is more combo/oily and always leans towards acne prone. I’ve always had redness, which is not rosacea, but frustrating nonetheless. Here’s what Paula’s Choice says about the Calm Redness Relief skin care:
This collection of 6 products works together to gently reduce redness, and signs of irritation with comforting, moisturizing formulas. These lines are suitable for extra sensitive skin, redness, rosacea like skin, normal/dry, or combination/oily skin.
I’m sometimes hesitant about trying new skin care products, because I don’t want to cause my skin to become more red or breakout. I had absolutely no qualms about testing out the new Paula’s Choice Calm Redness relief kit. I’ve had really good luck with Paula’s Choice in the past, and continue to use her products currently. Here’s what was included in my kit.
Redness Relief Cleanser: gel formula gently cleanses and soothes. I found this fragrance free liquid to be gentle and a great cleanser after makeup removal and in the morning. My face doesn’t feel tight or stripped after using this.
Redness Relief Toner: this gentle liquid toner replenishes and soothes skin. I can’t figure out why this is a little bit bubbly like a cleanser. It’s odd, but I’m trying to get used to it. I love Paula’s Choice toners, they are typically moisturizing and remind me more of an essence. My face feels slightly tingly until the toner dries.
Redness Relief 1% BHA Lotion Exfoliant: Gentle salicylic acid treatment to exfoliate and keep pores clear. I’m ridiculously excited about this. I am newly able to use salicylic acid and I’m telling you…this is like a pore vacuum. Nothing works quite as well as salicylic acid to keep blackheads at bay. This formula is loaded with soothing and calming ingredients like licorice root extract, willow herb and green tea. It can be used twice a day, but I’m starting slowly and using it a few times per week. I have only been using it slightly longer than a week, but I can tell you it’s very gentle and non irritating.
Redness Relief Repairing Serum: this antioxidant rich serum reduces inflammation and calms red skin. I’m really liking the texture of this serum so far. The third ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which is great for moisture retention. I sometimes find Paula’s Choice serums to be too heavy with silicones, but this doesn’t have a silicone texture at all. It works well under makeup, or for nighttime use. I think in the warmer months, this might be moisturizing enough for me to use during the day, without the need for an additional moisturizer.
Redness Relief Moisturizer: this lightweight moisturizer gently hydrates and repairs skin, reduces redness and irritation. This lotion doesn’t feel heavy, but it packs a punch of moisture. I like the light texture. It does have some silicones, which makes it a great foundation primer. On days my skin needs some extra moisture, I will use this under my makeup. If my skin is behaving, I use this at night after the BHA lotion and Repairing Serum.
Redness Relief spf30 Mineral Moisturizer: This lightweight mineral spf lotion leaves a demi matte finish, doesn’t have any sunscreen scent, and has added antioxidants. This is a solid spf with zinc and titanium dioxide sun protection. It doesn’t leave my face feeling and looking greasy, which I can’t stand in a sunscreen. I look forward to testing this out more in warmer weather.
I think the Paula’s Choice Calm Redness Relief kits are going to be a big hit for many people who have sensitive skin. I highly recommend trying one of the kits, which cost $129. You can purchase the items separately, but you will save money if you buy as a kit. You can also save 20% and get free shipping by using my affiliate link.
I’m really happy with my first week using the Paula’s Choice Calm Redness Relief kit. I’ve had no acne flare ups, my redness hasn’t increased, and I haven’t had any problems on my dry areas. I’m really happy to share with you that my face has been looking calm and I have no redness when I wake in the morning.
I’m happy to recommend the newest line from Paula’s Choice, and look forward to continuing my trial. If you would like to see all my other Paula’s Choice favorites(most of which I still use and love!), you can find that post here: Paula’s Choice Skin Care Regimen.

If you are anything like me, you get a little thrill each time you finish up a beauty product. I have so many things to test, enough makeup for the entire East Coast, I’ll never use it all! I have to say, the opposite happens when I’m nearing the end of the bottle of my Paula’s Choice products. I get a little panicky until I’ve ordered and received my replacement products!
You can find my original Paula’s Choice post here to see what I used to begin my regimen almost 4 months ago. I’m happy to share that I’m still using and loving the majority of the products I started with! I’ve made several orders for replacements of the Moisture Boost One Step Cleanser, the Resist Anti Aging Toner, Intensive Repair Cream, Moisture Renewal Oil Booster, and Clear Daily Skin Clearing Treatment with Benzoyl Peroxide. I’m still using the 8% AHA gel several times a week, and haven’t even finished my first bottle yet. As far as new products I’m loving from Paula’s Choice, the Resist Vitamin C spot treatment and the Skin Recovery Replenishing Moisturizer have become staples in my skin care routine.
My previously normal/dry skin has been oily and a bit clogged this summer, so I may try a few different products out from Paula’s Choice Clear line. For the most part, my products have helped my skin effortlessly transition from Winter dryness to a more normal state. I will continue to regularly use the Moisture Boost cleanser after removing my makeup every night. It’s wonderful at leaving my skin completely clean, yet not stripped of moisture. The Replenishing Toner is a perfect follow up for the cleanser. I like that it is more like a serum, than toner. My skin never feels dry or tight after applying with a cotton pad. I use the Clearing Treatment as a spot treatment once or twice a day.
I don’t need to use the heavier moisturizers every day, now that Summer has my skin more oily. I do find that I use them several times a week. The AHA gel and Retinol Repair Cream are great for night time. The Skin Recovery Moisturizer is gentle enough to be used on the eye area, and works well even under makeup.
I’d love to share a 20% off code, and free shipping with you! Click the banner below to check out Paula’s Choice for yourself. I’d highly recommend a consultation with their skin care experts if you’re new to the brand.
I think it’s important to remember that Memorial Day is not about beauty sales and bbqs, but about honoring and remembering those who have fought for our freedom, and served our country. That said, many holidays have become a good time to save on beauty brands we are already buying.
Too Faced and tarte are both offering 20% off.
Get $10 off your first order ($15 minimum) from my favorite skincare line, Paula’s Choice. You can also use PRIMP20 to receive 20% off your order and free shipping. Now that’s a great deal! Stock up while you can!!

Two weeks into my Paula’s Choice skin overhaul, I’m quite impressed. I’ve committed to only using Paula’s Choice skin care (aside from eye cream, which I don’t have from her yet), and I’m already seeing results. My skin is dry and dehydrated, and I do still get acne at 36. It seems mostly food allergy related and hormonal. I’ve had a lot of trouble the past 8 months with break outs. I do have some sun damage and acne scarring on my cheeks, and uneven texture on my chin and cheeks.
When Pretty In My Pocket teamed up with Paula’s Choice, and offered a skin consultation I jumped at the opportunity. Before I even received my products, I was really impressed with the thoroughness of my skin consult. To be honest, it was better than an appointment at my dermatologist. I couldn’t wait to get started!
Moisture Boost One Step Cleanser – I use this gentle fragrance free wash after my makeup remover to gently cleanse my skin. It has a light lather, but it doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped.
Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner – this toner feels more like a serum or essence. It is thicker than a traditional toner, and I feel like it gives my skin a moisture boost before my treatments and face cream.
Clear Daily Skin Treatment 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide – this acne treatment can be used for spot treatment, or used all over. I love this stuff! It’s effective, without being overly drying. It also doesn’t leave that chalky white film behind that so many acne treatments do. Paula’s Choice offers a lot of other acne products that contain salicylic acid, which is a BHA. Most people find this to be a great pimple preventer, and a good product to keep pores clear of blackheads and debris. I’m allergic to salicylic acid, so I am using a combination of benzoyl peroxide and glycolic acid (AHA).
Skin Perfecting AHA Gel 8% – this exfoliant smooths skin, lightens discoloration from acne scarring and hyperpigmentation, and stimulates collagen production. This is a fabulous chemical exfoliant, which doesn’t dry my skin out. Sometimes physical exfoliation is too much for my skin, but this seems to be working well. It’s definitely lightening some old scars on my cheeks, and smoothing rough skin out. I don’t use it everyday, but about every other day. I do feel a mild tingle when I apply the AHA Gel. It’s a gel, so it sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave any residue. Works well at night or under makeup.
Resist Intensive Wrinkle Repair Retinol Serum – suitable for all skin types, this serum smooths wrinkles, softens lines, increases collagen production, fades sun damage and acne scars. I like this serum so far. I’ve only used it a few times, but I can confirm that it is NOT making me break out, so that’s a win! I plan on using it daily and hope to see long term results, like my acne marks fading and the fine lines around my eyes softened. What I like about it: it’s gentle! This is not a retinol product that’s going to suck the moisture out of your skin like my prescription did. It’s a serum that has some slip to it, and almost feels like an oil-serum. It works well at night or under makeup on my dry skin. I like that it seals completely and blocks light, as retinol is unstable.
Resist Intensive Repair Cream with Retinol – I use this at night as my last step, and in the morning under my makeup. It’s a nice thick cream that my dry skin drinks up. I’ve had no problems using this around my eyes as well.
Resist Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer with spf25 – this daily moisturizer contains powerful anti oxidants to protect and repair skin from sun damage and environmental stress. I do prefer a physical sunscreen, as opposed to chemical. The good news is this contains 8% titanium dioxide to protect from the sun. This is the one product that didn’t wow me. This moisturizer has great skin loving ingredients, but I just didn’t like the feel of it on my skin under my makeup. It also didn’t layer well under my foundation. I know many others love this particular product, so it may be a good option for you. My skin is notoriously picky with any sunscreen products.
Moisture Renewal Oil Booster – This oil and ceramide moisture boost is a must have for me. I use it alone, or add a few drops to my Intensive Repair Cream. It contains borage seed oil, argan oil, apricot kernel oil, evening primrose oil and jojoba oil. This multi tasker can be used just about anywhere, including your cuticles and to smooth out the ends of hair. (not on Paula’s website, but I tried it!)
Paula’s Choice Nude Matte eyeshadow palette – with all the superb skin care products, you might miss the fact that Paula’s Choice does cosmetics too! I’ve been using this eyeshadow palette almost daily. It’s got a great range of shades, most are neutral toned. There’s nothing too warm or cool in this palette. I think it would be a great place to start if you haven’t experimented with makeup before, or like me you just want ALL THE PALETTES. There is one shimmery ivory shade that’s gorgeous used as a corner of the eye highlight. I also found two shades that work for my brows! The shadows themselves are soft, most are creamy and pigmented.
Blush It On Contour Palette – This blush palette is my new favorite face palette! It contains a shimmery highlight shade, neutral bronzer, and four blush shades: Delicate Coral, Dusty Rose, Peony and Soft Mauve. Each one is smooth and creamy (even though they are a powder), pigmented and long lasting. Perfection!
Soft Mauve, Peony, Dusty Rose, Delicate Coral, Bronze and Pearl highlight.
