Easy Detox Without Dieting or Drugs – Dry Skin Brushing!

Did you know your skin is the largest organ of your body? Not only does dry brushing stimulate and exfoliate your skin, it also helps detoxify it! Skin is the third largest organ (behind your kidneys and lungs) that releases toxins from your body. You actually excrete a quarter of your body’s toxins through your skin. Why wouldn’t you want to expedite that process and help your body out?!

Obviously, we know that dry brushing your skin will exfoliate the dead skin cells. It also revs up your blood flow and lymphatic system. When you dry brush, you are supporting your lymph system and encouraging the release of the toxins stored in the lymph glands. Your blood then carries these toxins to your lungs, kidneys and skin for elimination.

There are other claims that dry skin brushing will help to lessen the look of cellulite. While I don’t know if that is true, it can’t hurt to try!!

I dry brush almost daily as part of my detox routine. I always do it before a shower, or even better, a bath with Epsom salts! Epsom salt is another wonderful natural way to detox, which I will do another post on.

If you are ready to start dry brushing, here are are some basic details you need to know. You will need a natural bristle brush, with or without a handle. I have one with a handle and it makes the process easier!

Always brush towards your heart! You are essentially routing the toxins towards your lymphs. Start with the soles of your feet and move upward with circular motions. Avoid any areas which have a rash, bruise or sore. You will have to be the judge of how vigorously you dry brush. Some can apply more pressure than others. You should never dry brush your face, as the skin is too sensitive there.

After you finish dry brushing, take a shower or bath to rinse the dead skin off. Have you ever tried dry brushing? What’s your favorite natural detox method? If you have any ideas, leave a comment below! Thanks for reading!
