How to make an all natural coconut lip scrub

I’m going to be starting a new series of natural products that I use and love. I will show you how and why they are beneficial, and how you can incorporate some all natural products in your beauty routine! I thought a great way to start was to share how I make a super duper easy lip scrub!

Coconut oil has so many benefits, not just for skin and hair, but using it in cooking as well! The sugar in this lip scrub acts as a physical exfoliant, the coconut oil provides moisture.

What you will need
*coconut oil (I like Trader Joe’s extra virgin organic)
*sugar (I used granulated white, planning on trying coconut sugar)
*small container for the scrub
*small mixing bowl, spoon to stir, 1 TBSP measuring spoon

Coconut oil is a soft solid at room temperature. Of course this depends on where you live, and the season! What you want to do first is liquefy the coconut oil. This can be done easily on the stove (double boiler method) or in the microwave, if you are lazy like me. I will usually check it at 10 seconds, then mix and heat for 5-10 more seconds. It softens very quickly!

Measure approximately 1 Tablespoon of coconut oil and place in a small bowl. Soften the coconut oil until liquified. Add approx 2 Tablespoons of granulated white sugar and gently mix. This is where you can get creative.

If you want your lip scrub on the more abrasive side, use more sugar. If you want just a lightly exfoliating scrub, use less sugar. You don’t want to over mix or dissolve the sugar in the oil. Scrape this slushy mixture into a small container to harden.

Your coconut sugar lip scrub will harden (but not too hard!) within a couple of hours. All you need to do for super smooth and soft lips is scrape a little out and massage gently on your lips, wiping them off when done. Of course, you don’t need to save this scrub just for your lips. Treat your hands and feet, or whole body if you wish!
