I have to start off by saying, this is one of the most fun things I’ve had the pleasure to review. You know I love skin care, and diy skin care too. My love for skin care products includes the science and chemistry aspect as well.
I love to learn about ingredients, and why and how I should be using certain actives. I was sent the Formulation Kit for beginners and Collagen Serum to review from Skin Actives
What’s included in the Formulation Kit -
- 4 oz canvas base cream (to mix your active ingredients in)
- 50ml sea kelp bioferment
- 1oz shea mousse
- 2ml lipophilic antioxidant complex
- mini kit of fragrances
- empty jars, spatulas and transfer pipettes
I have been using the collagen serum nightly. It’s a fast absorbing non greasy serum that my skin happily absorbs immediately. I made a small batch of lotion to use before bed, by combining the base cream, sea kelp coral, shea mousse and 2 drops of antioxidant booster. So far, my skin has been less dry and tight. I haven’t had any flakiness or irritation. I will use a bit more shea mousse in my next batch, now that the weather is cooler and my skin is drier! I love that I can make small batches to see what combination works best for me, and change it up with the season!
Skin Actives sends you some guidelines of how to combine your ingredients. They also have a forum here and their You Tube channel. Their customer service is outstanding, and they are always able to answer any questions you might have. I am thrilled with the results I am seeing in my customized skin care. I’ve already made a list of things I want to try next! Please note, Skin Actives is a cruelty free company.
Have you tried Skin Actives skin care? I’d love to hear what you think about the ability to make your own customized skin care! Thanks for reading, and please share this post if you found it enjoyable!

How cool is this! Thanks for the great review - am going to look into it!
Yes, I think you might like it!! There really is something for every skin concern out there!
Amber I am agree with you. Ingredients of any kinds of product are the main factors to be considered before buying them. Obviously it is more important in the field of skin care products because of our skins’ sensitiveness. The quality of a product is mainly based on its ingredients. So, we should more conscious about the ingredients.

Thanks for stopping by Mariea!
Thank you for the review. Can you tell us a little more about the cream you made? Did you use all the ingredients?
Hi Jonatan! Thanks for checking out the review. I plan to do a more in depth review once I’ve used the ingredients a few more weeks. My skin loves the collagen serum. It makes my skin super soft, and supple. I used the base cream, shea mousse and sea kelp coral to make a cream for nighttime. I also added 2 drops of the anti oxidant booster. Now that the weather is changing here on the east coast, I need a more moisturizing night cream. I will probably try the above lotion for daytime, and use more shea mousse in the next batch. I made a small amount, so that I could play around with the ratios and customize it as needed! I am really loving being able to mix my own creams with wonderful ingredients and actives!!
