When we were in Alaska last week, I had the opportunity to do my Mom’s makeup. Any time she agrees to let me experiment I get excited!! She’s a beautiful 60-year-old woman, though she looks much younger. She has amazing Heterochromiatic (different color) eyes. One brown and one green! I was applying her eyeshadow when she asked why I was not using matte shadows. I have done an all matte eye on her, but I love how shadows with a little shimmer make her eyes shine! She mentioned some YouTube videos she’d seen lately that were about doing makeup on mature skin, and how they stated she should use matte shadow, never shimmer. It will settle into lines and creases, make you look old…etc. You get the point. Now, I do not subscribe to the belief that just because you are over a certain age your makeup should be a certain way.
Certainly, some application techniques might not work, or certain colors. I firmly believe if you like how you look, and feel confident and comfortable in your skin, than keep doing what you are doing! I certainly wouldn’t apply a glitter-bomb shadow on my Mom. But pixi’s Fairy Light Solos are the some of the best shadows I’ve ever tapped my shadow brushes in! These silky natural shadows are meant to lift, brighten and enhance the eyes. They are available in 5 holographic shades with 3 undertones.
I have Nude Nouveaux, a beautiful color for all over the lid. This is my go to shade for brightening my face and making me look more awake. I also have Bronze Beam, which is a beautiful bronze that I like to apply to my crease and outer v. It also works fabulously as an eyeliner. I can’t stress enough how easy these shadows are to use. Seriously, they practically blend themselves! They are perfect for those with expert skills, and at the same time someone new to eyeshadow application.
If I have an extra minute or two when doing my makeup, I’ll line my upper waterline and smudge my eyes with pixi’s Endless Silky Eye Pen. I have Bronze Beam which is the perfect pairing with my Fairy Light Solo shadows. These long wearing pencil liners are waterproof, and do not budge once they set. In other words, they are great for hot summer days!
Do you have any favorite products from pixi? Next on my to-try list is ALL of the other Fairy Light Solos and the Copper Peach and Plum Quartz Mesmerizing Mineral palettes. You can see swatches of the Plum palette here: Crazy Beautiful Makeup and My Newest Addiction. I’ve also heard great things about the Brow Duo and Shea Butter Lip Balms.
pixi is available at Target and online. The Fairy Light Solos are $14 each for 2.29g. The Endless Silky Eye Pen is $12.
