- pure acetone
- cotton pads/balls or felt cut into little squares
- foil squares
- glycerin (optional)
- orange stick
Add a drop or two of glycerin to your cotton or felt pad. Then add acetone, enough to saturate but not leave it dripping. Using glycerin is completely optional. I have very dry cuticles, and change my polish often. The glycerin will just add a little moisture to the mixture. Acetone is very harsh and drying on skin, obviously! Sometimes I even take a q-tip saturated in glycerin and coat my cuticle area before soaking of my polish.
Place the cotton or felt pad on your nail.
Wrap up the nail being careful to keep the cotton soaked acetone on your nail, and off your skin.
Leave on for approximately 10-15 minutes for gel nail polish. Textured or glitter polish will take about 5-10 minutes, depending on how chunky the glitter is.
Once you have removed the foil packet, gently scrape any remaining loose polish off with an orange stick. If you have left over glitter on your nails, use a fresh cotton or felt pad with acetone and swipe your nail clean, being careful to wipe in one direction
(not back and forth or up and down).
I hope this is helpful! It’s not the only way to remove gel and glitter polish, but it’s my preferred method! If you have any tips or tricks to share, I’d love to hear in the comments below! Thanks for reading, and if you liked this post, please share!
